TORIN JOHNSON
Hello friend! My name is Torin J, and I’m a Wellbeing Practitioner with a vision (along with my partner) to create a global community centered on healthy movement, whole-food plant-based nutrition, and deep and meaningful relationships! I completed my 200 hr RYT under Anton Mackey and am certified in various other movement styles, along with plant-based nutrition through the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies.
When it comes to movement, my primary focus is long-term strength, flexibility, and mobility. In other words, healthy movement for life! My teaching is anatomically focused, with diversification in movement styles. Though centered around Yoga Asana, I love incorporating movements from Qi Gong, CARs, and Calisthenics, and love to make creative sequences using many props. I also actively work to meet each student where they are at on their movement journey, and adapt classes to fit current needs based on what I observe and what movements might be more effective and safe.
To me, healthy movement also means movement of the mind, especially with mind-body connection and more specifically, exploration of the body with the mind. This is my secondary focus in movement practices. Movement is an expression of self, and every practice is an opportunity to get to know your body and mind better. I often leave additional space for you to explore the foundations of a pose, guided by sensation and curiosity. I also like to weave mindfulness throughout each class, and usually end with partial Yoga Nidra guided meditations (often accompanied by live acoustic guitar).
My third focus is on fluidity and fun! I love Yoga Asana because of the interconnected and fluid nature of each practice. When I started practicing, I was captivated by the full presence needed to go through the entirety of a class. To create a greater sense of fluidity and fun, I aim to make the arc of a class a full experience, and use music, energy changes through movement, and themes in most practices :)
In 2024 my partner (Julia) and I began teaching full time and started Wellbeing Café, a YouTube channel based on our shared vision, which currently has shorter Yoga Asana practices of all levels (averaging 25 minutes).
